The May STRIDE meeting will take place on TUESDAY, May 14th at 6:30PM at the home of Carol Rike, Sweetwater Farm, 6700 NW 90th Ave., Ocala, Florida. Bring a potluck dish and enjoy a fantastic presentation by Rachel Meyer.
Rachel Meyer has been a practicing physical therapist and equine massage therapist for over 30 years. She also has over 50 years of experience riding, training, and breeding her own horses. Mostly participating in dressage and natural horsemanship in the past 25 years, she is highly attuned to the motion patterns needed for successful pain free riding and training, The techniques used can be applied to horses and riders of all disciplines.
In her sports therapy practice in Oyster Bay, NY, many local equestrians as well as other athletes were treated for injuries. In her 20 years there, the focus was on functional stability of the spine to enhance movement patterns and balance. This is the focal point of treatment of back pain as well as producing excellence in high level performance athletes regardless of the type of injury.
With the sale of her practice, Rachel has taken the opportunity to spend more time working on horses and their riders with both manual therapy and movement- based treatment and training. Splitting her time between Ocala and Long Island, she is now able to reach a larger number of dedicated equestrians and their horses.
Take the opportunity to experience enhanced balance by utilizing proper support of the core musculature to align the body. In addition, an introduction to the use of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization will be provided. This will be demonstrated with equine and human examples.
